SCKCB Minutes of April 8, 2004

The meeting was started at approximately 7:15 pm at the Bowling Green Public Library. Members present were: Ron and Palma Milliman, Max and Sue Robinson and Darlene Winkenhofer.

President Milliman opened the meeting with a few comments regarding the number of members present. In lieu of our secretary's absence, Palma Milliman was asked to read the minutes of the previous meeting. They were approved and accepted by all members present. Also, in lieu of our treasurer not being present, President Milliman reported there should be a total of $249.00 in our treasury.

A discussion of old business ensued with the first item being the PSA project. For the benefit of Darlene Winkenhofer, Max and Sue were asked to play the CD of the recorded PSA's, which they produced. As soon as we acquire some letterhead, which Kim and Mike Parsley are working on, President Milliman volunteered to get the PSA's to all of the Bowling Green and surrounding area radio stations to help get our community awareness program off the ground.

Using the PSA's as the basis for a fundraiser was further discussed, and it was reaffirmed that the project as a fundraiser will be pursued. The PSA's will be offered to other ACB affiliates and chapters for a modest charge and would be customized to fit each affiliate/chapter, e.g. affiliate name and contact information. It was proposed that the PSA's be sold for $34.95 each or two for $59.95 or four for $99.00. Fifty percent of the amounts received would go to Max and Sue to help cover their time and out-of-pocket costs, and the remaining fifty percent would stay with the SCKCB. We will also attempt to incorporate the project into our SCKCB web site, selling them directly from the site. The PSA's will be available to listen to from the web site also.

The next issue discussed was the TV program that we will be doing in conjunction with the Alive Center. It was decided that perhaps it would be a good idea for us to practice for the TV program by doing some role playing (e.g. Interviewer/interviewee) with the members present. We all wrote up some sample questions to use. At first it was thought that we would only be able to do a fifteen-minute show, but after the role-playing, it seemed that a thirty-minute show would be more appropriate and doable.

Since Lisa Newton was not present, she was not able to give us an update on the possibility of doing the Main Street show with Barbara Deeb, as Lisa had recommended in our previous meeting. Max and Sue offered to make an appointment with Ms. Deeb to talk to her about it and work up some possible dates and details.

Lions Club contacts were briefly discussed. President Milliman reported that so far nothing had developed with the Lions Club regarding funding the Newspaper Reading Service discussed in our previous meeting with Lion Omar Rogers, local Lion Club President.

House Bill 262 was also briefly discussed, but at the time of this meeting no final outcome of the bill could be reported.

New business: The Alive Center open house on April 21, 2004 was briefly discussed. President Milliman said that we might not be able to participate, if we didn't get some informational materials to hand out from the national ACB office.

The summer picnic was very briefly discussed but tabled at this time until more SCKCB membership input could be obtained regarding this subject.

It was decided that our next meeting would be at 7:00 p.m., on May 6, 2004 at the Bowling Green Public Library.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:49 pm.

Minutes respectfully recorded by Palma Milliman, Acting Secretary.
