SCKCB Minutes of May 6, 2004

The meeting was called to order at approximately 7:04 pm at the Bowling Green Public Library. Members present were: Ron and Palma Milliman, Max and Sue Robinson, Kim and Michael Parsley, Lisa Newton and a new guest, Mitchell Reed.

The minutes of our previous meeting were read by our acting secretary, Palma Milliman. They were approved and accepted by all members present.

Lisa Newton gave the treasurer's report. She reported that we currently had a balance of $249.00. Immediately following the treasurer's report, President Milliman presented Lisa with a check for $100.00, which was donated to SCKCB by the chairman of our Fund Raising Committee, Darlene Winkenhofer. The group graciously accepted the donation, and everyone agreed that we should keep Ms. Winkenhofer as Chairman of our Fund Raising Committee!

For the benefit of our guest, Mitchell Reed, President Milliman asked that all members introduce themselves to the group. In like manner, Mitchell Reed told the group a little about herself, and she was cordially invited to become a regular member.

Regarding old business, Michael and Kim Parsley followed with a report about the new letterhead and business cards that they designed for our chapter. Samples were passed around for everyone to look at. Michael gave President Milliman a few business cards, which Mike had designed and had printed off for him. Michael said similar personalized business cards could be produced for anyone else who needed them. Everyone agreed that the logo for our new letterhead and business cards was very professional looking, and did not need any changing.

Max and Sue Robinson were, again, asked to play the PSA promo CD for the benefit of those present who had not heard it before. Everyone commented that the PSA's all sounded excellent and very professional. President Milliman asked Palma to read the letter which he had written to accompany the PSA CD when he delivers them to the radio stations. The letter was accepted as read without any changes.

Plans for also using the PSA project as a fundraiser by selling PSA's to other ACB affiliates were reiterated by President Milliman. He outlined the basic plan for marketing the PSA's by contacting the various ACB affiliate presidents by E-mail to promote the fundraiser. The group embraced the plan quite enthusiastically.

Dr. Milliman also announced that the SCKCB.ORG web site was up and fully operational. He said it had a great deal of information on it about ACB and our SCKCB organization including our constitution, announcement of meetings and our meeting minutes and much more.

President Milliman announced that we were scheduled to tape two TV programs for the purpose of developing better public awareness of our organization and of blind related issues. The first one is the Outlook program with Barbara Deeb, and the second one was is The Alive Center Program with Cheryl Kirby-Stokes. We first meet with Barbara Deeb on May 19 at 3:00 pm to do a pre-taping for her "Outlook" show. Lisa Newton and Sue Robinson originally arranged this. Ron, Max and Palma will be the three people doing the taping with Ms. Deeb. We also have a taping session scheduled with Cheryl Stokes from the Alive Center on June 2. Subsequently, Palma read the set of moderator questions for the TV programs developed from our previous meeting in April. The group decided to drop two questions from the original list and add a couple that seemed more relevant and appropriate, given the educational objective of the TV programs. Following the sharpening and polishing of the questions, Sue acted in the role of moderator asking the questions to Max, Palma, and Ron, as a dry run practice session. The other members participated by making suggestions on how the questions could be answered more inclusively. The practice session was concluded by deciding that an additional practice session was needed and would be held at Max and Sue's house the day before the first taping on May 18.

The meeting then moved to the discussion of new business, and it was agreed that we would have a summer picnic on July 24 at Ron and Palma's home.

Kim Parsley announced that she had been asked to speak to a group in Logan County on May 18. She said that it would give her an opportunity to promote our SCKCB chapter.

Our next meeting is scheduled for July 24 at our summer picnic. The meeting was adjourned at 8:51 pm.
