The meeting began at 7:02 p.m. at the Bowling Green Public Library. Members present were Ron and
Palma Milliman, Michael and Kimberly Parsley, Patrick and Lisa McKinley, Max and Sue Robinson,
and Darlene Winkenhofer.
Our guest speaker, Kurt Fryberger, from Total Fitness was introduced. He spoke about the importance
of an exercise program combined with good nutrition. He offered us the opportunity to make
arrangements with the owners to go to their facility and work with a personal trainer after closing hours,
so that those of us with limited vision could learn the basic layout of the gym. Lisa McKinley mentioned that
there is a $7.00 day pass available for those who might be interested.
After the guest speaker left, we started our business meeting with the treasurer's report given
by Lisa McKinley. She reported that we began the year with a balance of $1,823.61 minus the $60, which
we sent to KCB for membership dues, and the $50 paid to Max and Sue Robinson for the recordings of the PSA's.
This brought our current balance to $1,713.61. The report was unanimously approved. There was a short discussion about the results of the PSA's. President Milliman said that he has personally received numerous responses from the PSA's, however, the majority were from people who knew of someone who was going blind, or had just become blind, and were mostly interested in what we could do for them. This was followed by the reading of the minutes from our previous meeting by Palma Milliman. The minutes were also unanimously approved.
Under old business, Ron reported that our Band Concert Fundraiser in November was very successful,
producing over $800.00 for us. Unfortunately, it was not too successful for Ellis Place. Therefore,
we are not sure if they will continue working with us.
Ron asked that we think about perhaps sending
a donation to ACB Headquarters in Washington to help them with their expenses of printing the Braille Forum.
It was also mentioned that we need to send a representative to Washington next month (February) for the "Washington Legislative Seminar."
It was decided that our next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 16. The program for that meeting
will be on "accessible shopping" which will be presented by Max Robinson.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:24 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Palma Milliman, Acting Secretary
