The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. at the Alive Center in Bowling Green, KY. Members present were Ron and Palma Milliman, Sue and Max Robinson, Leslie and Mitchell Plumlee, Nancy Imran, Cody Norris, Vicki and Ronda Pennycuff, Sam Moore, and Kristen Wilson. Also present were three new members, Sylvia Kersenbaum, Cheryl Crows and Mark Cross.
Our guest speaker, Jim Fortman, from the Low Vision Store in Indiana brought an array of low-vision equipment to demonstrate. We had a hands-on session, which was great for everyone. After Jim's demonstration, we continued with a short business meeting.
Max Robinson gave the treasurer's report. We currently have $4,068.46 in our bank account. It was moved that the report be accepted as read by Leslie Plumlee and seconded by Cody Norris; the motion passed unanimously. Palma Milliman followed with the minutes of the previous meeting. It was moved the minutes be accepted as read by Mitchell Plumlee and seconded by Sue Robinson; the motion carried unanimously. President Milliman gave a report on the tremendous success of our White Cane Safety Day exhibit in front of Wal-Mart on October 15th. Much of the credit for our success goes to Sue Robinson, because she made nearly all of the incredibly yummy baked goodies such as cookies, cupcakes, chocolate fudge, "No Bakes," among others. Palma made some scrumptious brownies, and Vickie Pennycuff made some delicious chocolate-dipped pretzels and peanut butter cookies. In addition, Sue made all of the very nice signs and cashbox, which helped a great deal! Leslie Plumlee pitched in by applying her superior math talents to be our cashier.
Ron also announced that he anticipated Wal-Mart would be giving SCKCB another grant this year! It was suggested by Cheryl that we write a letter to the editor of the newspaper thanking Wal-Mart and WKYU for their support. Ron also suggested that we might bring a thank you card to our next meeting and we can all sign it, and send it to Wal-Mart's manager, Tommy O'Brien. President Milliman also suggested that we give WKYU a one-time donation of $40.00, to help their fund drive since they have always supported the SCKCB. Alternatively, Max suggested that we should consider a $200 underwriter sponsorship because we would get a lot more exposure, i.e. two PSA's per week over a thirteen-week period for the $200 compared to only one mention of our contribution for the $40. After some discussion, Max made a motion that we pickup the $200 underwriter sponsorship with WKYU, and it was seconded by Palma Milliman; the motion passed unanimously. Another motion was made by Max Robinson to make our fiscal year January 1st through December 31st and have our dues collected in January. This would make our fiscal year coincide with both the KCB and ACB fiscal years in terms of dues collections and payments. The motion was seconded by Ronda Pennycuff and passed unanimously.
The meeting concluded by Sylvia Kersenbaum inviting everyone to her next concert on November 18th at Van Meter Auditorium. Admission is free! The meeting was adjourned at 9:09 p.m.
