SCKCB Minutes for March 21, 2007.

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. at the Alive Center in Bowling Green, KY. Members present were Ron and Palma Milliman, Max and Sue Robinson, Sam Moore, Mitchell Reed, Nancy Imran, Ronda and Vicki Pennycuff, and Natasha Davis. Simon Reed was a guest.

Secretary, Palma Milliman, read the minutes of the previous meeting. Max made a motion to accept the minutes as read. Ronda Pennycuff seconded the motion. The motion passed. This was followed by the treasurer's report given by Max Robinson. Our current balance is $5,215.63. A motion to accept the report was made by Cody Norris and seconded by Mitchell Reed. The motion passed.

Old Business.

Max and Sue gave a report on the Brim's Science Museum. They described several of the exhibits that they thought we could get something out of that do not require eyesight and that we would enjoy. President Milliman gave us a few dates to choose from so that he could confirm them with the museum. After some discussion, we decided to replace our April meeting with a visit to the museum. Therefore, we are planning to attend the Brim's Science Museum on April 18th, if that can be arranged with Chuck Phillips, the owner. Sue Robinson suggested that, as other possible activities for the future, we could go to Chaney's Dairy Barn and maybe Jackson's Orchard. Everyone seemed to think those were good ideas. Ron Milliman suggested that maybe we could just have our summer picnic at Chaney's Dairy Barn. The group indorsed that idea with enthusiasm! Another activity mentioned by Ron was borrowing audio described movies from the state library and perhaps showing them on WKU's campus, such as the theatre in the Downing University Student Center. Ron offered to look into that by contacting the necessary office on WKU's campus that handles those activities.

It was acknowledged that our WKYU sponsorship is running out at the end of March, and we have not received any leads from it so far. Therefore, we may not renew it.

Sue gave us an up date on the list of Ophthalmologist and optometrist she obtained from Cody Norris. We now have a list of thirty-four doctors, and thirty-four places to target with our low vision brochure, which we also need to up date. Ron recommended that this list of doctors should be put into a computer database, so that it will be easier to update, as well as for future mailings. Max also reported on his interview with Barbara Deeb for her show, "Growing Older." This was done over the telephone. It will air on March 27th at 9:30 a.m.

Ideas for our "Appreciation Program" were discussed, where we would recognize special friends of the SCKCB such as Tommy O'Brien, among others. Ron Milliman suggested incorporating it into Sylvia's concert next October, which is national disabilities month. Everyone agreed that giving a plaque to our supporters, such as, Tommy O Brian and Becky Rigsby, managers of our two local Wal-Mart s is a good idea. It was also suggested that we present Sylvia Kersenbaum with a plaque, as well, for her generous donation of a benefit concert for SCKCB. Everyone unanimously agreed! Ron also made mention of the fact that he and Palma took Tommy O Brian to lunch last month and during the conversation, let him know what SCKCB was intending on doing with the donations that Wal-Mart had given us.

New Business.

President Milliman told the group that he and Palma would be driving to Minneapolis for the ACB National Convention in July. This would be followed by our annual picnic, possibly at Chaney's Dairy Barn that might even include a hayride. During the months of August and September, we would be gearing up for October's activities associated with White Cane Safety Day and Sylvia's Benefit Concert.

Our meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Palma Milliman
