SCKCB Minutes for September 19, 2007.

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m. at the Alive Center in Bowling Green, KY. Members present were Ron and Palma Milliman, Max and Sue Robinson, Nancy Imran, Sam Morris, Mark and Sheryl Cross, Leslie and Mitchell Plumlee, Mitchell and Simon Reed, Sylvia Kursenbaum, and David Welch via cell phone connection. Cody Norris arrived late.

President Ron Milliman introduced our special guests, Rachel and Jackson Blackford. Our members introduced themselves to Rachel. Then, Rachel told us all about Jackson, her blind infant son. Jackson was born blind, and she is trying to get support from local organizations to help take Jackson to China for some pioneering stem cell surgery, which has a 98% success rate.

Secretary, Palma Milliman, read the minutes of our previous meeting. Leslie Plumlee made a motion to accept the minutes as read and it was seconded by Max Robinson. This was followed by the treasurer s report given by Max Robinson. We currently have a balance of $6,886.84. A motion to accept the report was made by Mark Cross, and seconded by Sylvia Kursenbaum. The motion passed. President Milliman followed with an announcement that since our August meeting, we have received an $800.00 grant from the Wal-Mart store on Campbell Ln. and another $1000.00 grant from the newest Wal-Mart on Morgantown Rd. At that point, a motion was made to donate $250.00 to the Jackson Blackford fund, which would be taken from the last grant given to SCKCB by Walmart. Max Robinson moved to accept the motion and it was seconded by Leslie Plumlee. The motion passed unanimously.

For the new technology demonstration part of our meeting, Ron Milliman demonstrated his new Victor Reader Stream to everyone. This new assistive device can play Daisy formatted files from the National Library Service, BookShare files, MS Word files, text files, mp3's, and also serves as a digital recorder. Nancy Imran also had a piece of assistive technology, but said that she would demonstrate it at our next meeting, after she had more time to figure it out.

Old Business.

We reviewed our forth-coming October activities. On Oct. 8th we will be sponsoring the audio described movie Ray at the WKU Media Center. Attendance will be free, and open to the public. We plan to accept donations for Jackson Blackford that night. On October 14, we will, again, hold a bake sale in front of the Wal-mart on Campbell Lane. President Milliman asked Sue Robinson if she would take charge of the bake sale, and she graciously accepted the responsibility. On October 28 at 3:00 p.m., Sylvia will be playing a benefit piano concert on our behalf at Van Meter Auditorium at WKU.

Our membership dues will be due no later than our January meeting. After January, 2008, dues will be $10.00 instead of only $8.00.

New Business.

Our elections were held for new officers. The following officers were elected:

Nancy Imran President.

Ron Milliman Vice President.

Palma Milliman Secretary.

Max Robinson Treasurer.

Our next scheduled meeting will be on October 17. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,

Palma Milliman
