SCKCB Minutes for August 21, 2008.

The meeting started at 7:12 p.m. at the Alive Center in Bowling Green, KY. Members present were Justine Spencer, Bill Clouse, Mitchell and Simon Reed, Max and Sue Robinson, Erica and Braden Cutright, Andrew Head, Ronda and Vicki Pennycuff, and Ron and Palma Milliman.

In President Nancy Imran's absence, Vice President, Ron Milliman, presided over this meeting. Everyone in attendance introduced himself or herself. Since the minutes of our previous meeting of April 16, 2008, were posted on our SCKCB List for everyone to review, the motion was made to dispense with the actual reading of the minutes by Max Robinson, and seconded by Bill Clouse. The motion passed unanimously, and the April minutes were accepted as posted to the SCKCB list.

Vice President Milliman made some important major announcements:

1. Erica Cutright was admitted in to the Exceptional Education Program at WKU

2. Sylvia Kersenbaum was in the hospital with a broken ankle. She had surgery and was coming home tomorrow.

3. We received a grant of $1,500 from the Wal Mart on Campbell Lane

4. Recognition of Max's excellent work on our SCKCB web site

That was followed by Max Robinson's treasurer's report. Our current balance in our bank account is $3,170.72. There seemed to be a discrepancy of $32.32 between the last bank statement and the actual balance in our checkbook, which Max was going to investigate and report his findings later.

Vice President Milliman asked if there was anyone who had anything to report on new technology, assistive devices, gadgets, or equipment, etc. Justine Spencer gave a brief overview of her new Victor Reader Stream, and Ron Milliman told us about his new Matias folding keyboard, which he bought to use with his laptop computer.

Old Business.

Ron Milliman reported that a new ACB brochure had been fashioned that we could use as a guide for re-designing our SCKCB brochure, but the SCKCB brochure was still a work-in-progress.

Sue Robinson reported that we officially have 24 paid members. Vice President Milliman reported that we did not receive any applications for our SCKCB Grant Program to consider last quarter; therefore, applications would again be solicited during the months of July and August for deliberation in September.

Ron Milliman reminded us that we need to get to work on obtaining our own 501C3 status. Bill Clouse said that he would work with Ron to get that done.

Fun Time: We broke our meeting up a little bit here to have a little fun with our NEW FUN FUND RAISER or "Hot Potato!" Everyone formed a big circle and Ron Milliman started to pass around the musical hot potato. This game came to a final HOT dual between Bill Clouse and Braden Cutright! The one left holding the hot potato at the end was Braden Cutright, so Bill Clouse won this game. Everyone in attendance played and put $1.00 into the pot at the start of the game. Our rules state that the winner takes half of the pot and the other half goes into our SCKCB treasury. That was FUN!

New Business.

The first thing on the agenda for the remainder of 2008 is our activity for White Cane Safety Day. After some discussion, Max Robinson made the motion that we have a bake sale in front of Wal Mart on Campbell Lane like last year. Ronda Pennycuff seconded the motion. Sue Robinson agreed to be in charge of the bake goods sale. She will coordinate what type of baked goods everyone will be responsible for.

Ron Milliman will check into getting more of our SCKCB t-shirts ordered for our new members that don't have one. We will all wear our t-shirts to the bake sale on White Cane Safety Day.

Family Updates.

Baby Jackson is doing much better. He seems to have improved sight since his stem cell surgery in China. However, it is believed that he will probably need more surgery in the future. Braden Cutright performed in a talent show at one of our local schools; Max will attempt to put his video on our SCKCB web site as soon as possible for all to see.

The date of our next meeting is Thursday, September 18, 2008.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:37 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Palma Milliman, Secretary  ·
