SCKCB Minutes for September 18, 2008.

The meeting started at approximately 7:10 p.m. at the Alive Center in Bowling Green, KY. Members present were Sam Moore, Vicki and Ronda Pennycuff, Sue and Max Robinson, Sylvia Kersenbaum, Bill Clouse, and Palma and Ron Milliman. Also, Barbara Miller attended as a special guest and new member.

We started the meeting by having everyone introduce themselves. This was followed by the approval of the minutes of our previous meeting, which had been posted to our SCKCB List prior to the meeting. Bill Clouse moved that we accept the minutes as posted, and Sue Robinson seconded the motion. The motion passed. Max Robinson presented the treasurer's report. This was an amended report, since last months report showed a small discrepancy. Max and Sue made a special trip to the bank to clear that up, which they did. Our current bank balance is now $3,101.67. Palma Milliman moved that we accept the report as presented. Sam Moore seconded the motion. The motion passed. Max reminded everyone that dues were now due, and that they are $8.00 per year, if paid by December 31st. After that date, they will be $10.00.

Assistive Devices: Max Robinson made a brief presentation on his newest assistive device, which is called System Access to Go. It is a relatively low-cost portable screen reader.

Old Business:

Final preparations for our White Cane Safety Day activity were discussed. Everyone agreed to hold our annual bake sale in front of the old Wal-Mart on Sunday, October 12th from 1:30 p.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. We will be borrowing table(s) from the Alive Center. It is advisable for everyone who attends to bring their own folding chair(s). Also, we will all be wearing our SCKCB t-shirts. Vicki Pennycuff offered to consult a printer in Glasgow, KY about printing some more t-shirts for our newest members that do not have one. Ron Milliman agreed to do a press release for us, and Sam Moore offered to announce our White Cane Safety Day event on his radio show.

At this point, we took a break and played our "Hot Potato" fund raising game. Our big winner this time was Vicki Pennycuff!

New Business:

Our original SCKCB Constitution, and "new" amendments were read and discussed at some length. It was decided that a little more work was needed in the wording of some of the amendments under Article V - Offices and the Executive Board. The changes that were suggested will be incorporated in a new draft by Ron, and posted to the SCKCB list for everyone to read. The new draft of the SCKCB Constitution will be read and discussed again at our next regular meeting in October.

Next, it was announced that Ron Milliman and Max Robinson are both running for state offices at the Kentucky Council of the Blind State Convention in Louisville on November 1, 2008. Ron Milliman is running for President of KCB, and Max Robinson is running for Secretary. Palma Milliman encouraged our membership to attend the convention this year to help support Ron and Max.

Our next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, October 21, 2008, subject to availability of the meeting room at the Alive Center.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Palma Milliman, Secretary
